**Madurai, January 1, 2025** – The Southern Railway has announced significant changes to the train schedule in the Madurai division, effective immediately. These changes, detailed in a newly released timetable, primarily result from an increase in sectional speed on several key routes from 100 kmph to 110 kmph.

The speed increase affects lines connecting Madurai to Bodinayakkanur, Tiruchi to Karaikudi-Manamadurai, Madurai to Manamadurai, Manamadurai to Mandapam, Virudhunagar to Sengottai, and Vanchi Maniyachchi to Thoothukudi.

A total of 69 express trains and eight passenger trains have seen their journey times reduced, with some experiencing cuts of up to 40 minutes. Several notable express trains saw significant time reductions including the Dadar-Tirunelveli Express (40 minutes), the Nagercoil-Chennai Egmore Superfast Express (40 minutes), the Erode-Sengottai Express (40 minutes), and the Nagercoil-Tambaram Superfast Express (40 minutes). Other trains saw reductions ranging from 30 to 35 minutes.

Furthermore, the departure times of several trains from Madurai Junction have been advanced by 5 to 15 minutes. Similar adjustments have been made to the departure times of several passenger trains originating from Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Sengottai.

The Southern Railway has updated the train timings on its NTES website and advises passengers to check the website or contact their respective station information counters for the most up-to-date schedules.
