**Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh** – A 24-year-old man, Arshad, has been arrested for the brutal murder of his mother and four sisters at a Lucknow hotel. The bodies of Asma (mother) and her daughters, aged 9, 16, 18, and 19, were discovered Wednesday morning at Hotel Sharan Jeet.
Arshad, who hails from Agra, allegedly confessed to the killings in a video circulating on social media. In the video, he claims he acted to protect his family from neighbors he accused of attempting to seize their Agra property and sell his sisters in Hyderabad.
According to police, Arshad drugged his family’s food and alcohol before killing them, using a combination of strangulation and a blade. Some victims showed signs of strangulation, while others had wrist and neck injuries. Police are investigating the exact methods used and awaiting the results of autopsies.
The family had been staying at the hotel since December 30th, reportedly celebrating New Year’s in Lucknow. Arshad reportedly took his family to Ajmer before returning to Lucknow. He allegedly killed his mother and sisters, then dropped his father, Badar, off at the railway station before turning himself in to police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raveena Tyagi confirmed the arrest and stated that Arshad admitted to the murders during preliminary interrogation. Joint Commissioner of Police (crime and headquarters), Babloo Kumar, added that the investigation is ongoing, involving interviews with hotel staff and a review of CCTV footage.
Police are currently searching for Arshad’s father, who they believe may have assisted in the crime. The murder weapons, including a blade and a dupatta (scarf), have been recovered. The motive, as stated by Arshad, remains under investigation. The horrific incident has shocked the city, and the investigation continues.
