Wed Jan 01 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Phillies’ Luzardo Declares Himself Fully Healthy Ahead of 2025 Season

**Philadelphia, PA** – Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo, acquired in an offseason trade, has declared himself 100% healthy following a back injury that hampered his 2024 season with the Miami Marlins. In a Zoom call with Philadelphia reporters on Monday, Luzardo stated he’s had a normal offseason and expects to be ready for Spring Training.

Luzardo’s 2024 campaign was cut short by a lumbar stress reaction, landing him on the injured list in June and ultimately ending his season prematurely in August. He posted a disappointing 5.00 ERA in 12 starts. However, the left-hander is confident a return to full health will see him regain his 2023 form, when he delivered a 3.58 ERA and a league-leading swinging strike rate for the Marlins. A healthy Luzardo is projected to be a key part of the Phillies’ starting rotation, slotting in behind aces Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola.

The Phillies traded highly-touted shortstop prospect Starlyn Caba to acquire Luzardo, a move that could solidify their starting pitching depth. While the team has added veteran Joe Ross to bolster their bullpen, all eyes are also on top pitching prospect Andrew Painter, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Phillies have confirmed Painter will not pitch in Spring Training games and will gradually build up his innings in the minor leagues. The team is exercising caution with Painter, prioritizing his long-term health and hoping to have him contribute later in the season. The presence of Luzardo, however, provides the Phillies with some breathing room, allowing them to utilize Ross and another veteran, Taijuan Walker, in relief roles to start the season.
