**New Delhi, January 1, 2025** – India rang in the New Year 2025 with widespread celebrations across the country. Major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and the national capital New Delhi, witnessed jubilant crowds welcoming the new year with fireworks and festivities. Marine Drive in Mumbai was packed with revelers, while Kolkata’s celebratory spirit filled the “City of Joy.” In Amritsar, devotees thronged the Golden Temple, exchanging New Year greetings. Elsewhere, citizens in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marked the occasion by cutting cakes. Large crowds were also observed at GIP Mall in Noida.

To ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents, thousands of police personnel were deployed across the country. CCTV cameras were strategically placed, and traffic was managed effectively. Special emphasis was placed on curbing drunk driving, with police setting up checkpoints and utilizing breathalyzers in major cities.

Delhi Police deployed approximately 20,000 personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, to maintain order and prevent hooliganism and traffic violations on New Year’s Eve. Fifty teams equipped with breathalyzers were stationed at key locations to deter drunk driving. Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla stated that comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors. Special arrangements were in place for areas expected to have large gatherings, such as clubs, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and malls.

Maharashtra also implemented extensive security measures, deploying over 14,000 police personnel in Mumbai alone. Government Railway Police also strengthened security at railway stations and platforms. Bengaluru, Karnataka, further enhanced security with over 7,500 CCTV cameras and increased police presence at strategic locations.
