Wed Jan 01 03:40:00 UTC 2025: **Devils Fall to Ducks in Final Game of 2024, Despite Siegenthaler and Meier Goals**

ANAHEIM, CA – The New Jersey Devils ended 2024 with a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, despite goals from Jonas Siegenthaler and Timo Meier. Lukas Dostal shone in net for the Ducks, making 30 saves to frustrate the Devils’ offense.

Anaheim opened the scoring early in the first period when Troy Terry capitalized on a loose puck. The Devils mounted a strong offensive push, hitting the crossbar multiple times, but were unable to solve Dostal. Robby Fabbri extended the Ducks’ lead early in the third period before Siegenthaler finally broke through for New Jersey, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Meier then tied the game, but Ryan Strome’s slap shot secured the victory for Anaheim with just over three minutes remaining.

Despite outshooting the Ducks 26-21, the Devils struggled to capitalize on their chances, while Anaheim effectively utilized power play opportunities in the second period. New Jersey’s penalty kill was key in keeping the game close, particularly after Nico Hischier’s unusual double-minor penalty. Jacob Markstrom performed admirably in the Devils net, but ultimately couldn’t prevent the loss.

This defeat marks the Devils’ second consecutive regulation loss, their first such streak since mid-October. Dostal, a recurring nemesis for New Jersey, once again proved difficult to beat. The Devils open 2025 with a game against the Los Angeles Kings on New Year’s Day.
