**Bhiwani, Haryana, December 31, 2024** – A 22-year-old Dalit college student died by suicide in Bhiwani district, prompting a police investigation into allegations of harassment and pressure over unpaid fees. The woman, a final-year B.A. student at a private women’s college, reportedly took her own life on December 24th.
Her father, Jagdish, claims his daughter was barred from taking her fifth-semester exams due to outstanding fees, a burden he couldn’t meet due to financial constraints. He alleges she faced harassment from the college principal and others. Police have registered an abetment of suicide case and are investigating various angles, although no suicide note was found.
Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi stated that the government is taking action against those responsible and that an FIR has been filed.
