**TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh –** The late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s enduring support for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been highlighted following his passing. Dr. Singh’s relationship with ISRO, particularly the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota (SDSC-SHAR), was characterized by unwavering commitment and a visionary approach to space exploration.
His contributions began early in his career. As Member-Finance of the Space Commission from 1972-76, Dr. Singh played a crucial role in advancing India’s space program. A pivotal visit to SHAR in 1976, during the SLV-3 project, saw him secure government approval for crucial funding, propelling the project forward.
Later, as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh made two significant visits to SHAR. In 2005, he unveiled a bust of Prof. Satish Dhawan, commemorating the space pioneer’s vision. In 2012, he witnessed the successful launch of PSLV-C21, providing a much-needed morale boost to ISRO’s scientists and engineers. His consistent support underscores his deep commitment to India’s space ambitions.
