**Chennai, December 29, 2024** – A 50-year-old farmer from Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh for cultivating ganja (cannabis) on his land. K. Kannan, from Anaimaduvu village in Villupuram district, was arrested in June 2021 following a tip-off to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau. The Villupuram Special Court delivered its verdict on December 26th, finding Kannan guilty under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is currently serving his sentence at the Central Prison in Cuddalore.
