**Kochi, Kerala:** MLA Uma Thomas sustained serious injuries after falling from a stage during a dance performance at Kallur stadium last night. She suffered head injuries, a fractured rib cage, and lung injuries, and has been admitted to Kochi Renai Medicity hospital. She is currently on a ventilator.

Police have registered a case against the organizers for negligence, citing inadequate safety measures at the event. The Palarivattom police investigation highlights several safety lapses, including the lack of a walkway in front of the temporary stage and the absence of safety barriers. The stage, reportedly 12 feet high and 55 feet long, was deemed unsafe due to its construction and weak support structures. The FIR, filed early Monday morning, currently names no individuals.

While the police investigation continues, hospital authorities report that Ms. Thomas’s condition is showing improvement and that emergency surgery is not currently required. However, she sustained fractures in three ribs, resulting in blood clots in her lungs, and also suffered a spinal injury. A team of expert doctors, including a panel from Kottayam Medical College, are treating her. A further medical bulletin is expected later today.
