**New Delhi, [Date of Publication]** – The Ministry of Education released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings this August, providing crucial guidance for prospective students seeking higher education in 2025. This year’s rankings, the ninth edition, saw a record-breaking 10,845 institutions participate, a significant increase from 3,565 in 2016. The expanded framework now evaluates institutions across 16 categories, including newly added verticals like Open Universities and Skill Universities.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, secured the top spot in the overall university rankings with a score of 83.29. Following closely were Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia, both in New Delhi. Other top ten universities include Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Aligarh Muslim University, Jadavpur University, and Vellore Institute of Technology. The NIRF 2024 rankings offer a comprehensive overall ranking alongside category-specific rankings for universities, research institutions, and degree colleges. Discipline-specific rankings are also provided, highlighting top performers in fields such as architecture, pharmacy, and agriculture.
