Mon Dec 30 03:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Wrigley Field Transforms into Hockey Rink for NHL Winter Classic

**Chicago, IL – December 27, 2024** – Wrigley Field is undergoing a dramatic transformation, shedding its baseball skin to become a hockey rink in preparation for the highly anticipated NHL Winter Classic. The game, scheduled for Tuesday, December 31st, will see the Chicago Blackhawks face off against the St. Louis Blues.

Construction crews are hard at work, installing an ice rink over the iconic baseball diamond. NHL Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer reported that the transformation is approximately 50% complete, with further graphics, structures, and artificial snow still to be added.

Mayer highlighted the unique elements that will blend the spirit of the Chicago Cubs with the NHL Winter Classic. This includes incorporating the iconic Wrigley rooftop views and a special rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the second intermission. The event will also feature Chicago-based musical acts Chance the Rapper and Smashing Pumpkins, adding to the local flavor.

“We’ve really tried to take advantage of what would be a Cubs game,” Mayer said, noting the inclusion of Cubs traditions and the presence of Cubs personnel at the event. He emphasized the league’s honor in hosting a second Winter Classic at the historic Wrigley Field. The previous Winter Classic at Wrigley was held in 2009.
