**Belagavi, Karnataka, December 30, 2024** – The Diocese of Belgaum inaugurated its Jubilee Year 2025, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, with a special ceremony at Fatima Cathedral in Belagavi on Sunday. The event, attended by priests, nuns, and Christians from across North Karnataka, featured prayers, a procession of the Holy Cross, and a Holy Mass led by Bishop Derek Fernandes.
Bishop Fernandes paid tribute to the late Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a moment of silence. A special cross, to be venerated throughout the year, was blessed during the ceremony.
In his sermon, Bishop Fernandes highlighted the Jubilee Year’s theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” emphasizing the importance of family and faith. He urged attendees to confess their sins and embrace transformation during this period. Special prayer services will be held in all churches within the diocese throughout 2025.
