PATNA, Bihar – Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor and approximately 600-700 others are facing charges after a protest in Patna on Sunday turned violent. The demonstration, held by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants demanding the cancellation of the allegedly leaked 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), escalated after police intervened.
The protest, initially held near the Gandhi statue, lacked official permission. According to Patna Administration, despite repeated requests to disperse, the crowd violated administrative guidelines, damaging loudspeakers and necessitating the use of water cannons and force to restore order.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Gandhi Maidan police station, charging the participants with unauthorized assembly, incitement, and disruption of public order. Mr. Kishor, who addressed the protesters, expressed his party’s support for the students if they faced injustice and indicated further action depending on the outcome of discussions between a student committee and the Chief Secretary.
The students are demanding the cancellation of the BPSC prelims exam held on December 13th, alleging a paper leak. Mr. Kishor has pledged continued support if the students’ concerns are not adequately addressed.
