**Patna, Bihar:** Acharya Kishor Kunal, a renowned former IPS officer and secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust, passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to Mahavir Vatsal Hospital in Patna on Saturday evening, where he succumbed to his illness.
His final rites will be performed today, Monday, at Konhara Ghat in Hajipur, as per the family’s wishes, according to Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh. A procession will depart from his Patna residence, with his body being taken to the Mahavir Mandir and the trust’s hospital for public viewing before proceeding to Hajipur. The Patna district administration is assisting with arrangements.
Kunal’s death has caused widespread mourning in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary, Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan, and numerous other leaders have expressed their condolences. A large crowd gathered at his Kurji residence in Patna to pay their last respects. Many dignitaries, including Bihar Assembly Deputy Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav and Minister Ashok Chaudhary (Kunal’s father-in-law), offered tributes.
Acharya Kishor Kunal, a native of Baruraj in Muzaffarpur, had a distinguished career. He served as an IPS officer in the Gujarat cadre and later as SSP in Patna. He also held positions as Vice-Chancellor of a Sanskrit University, Chairman of the Bihar Religious Trust Board, and Secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust. He was also a member of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust, donating ₹10 crore and a gold bow for the Ram Lalla temple’s consecration ceremony.
