Sat Dec 28 04:43:37 UTC 2024: ## Andhra Pradesh Overhauls School Education System After Policy Reversal
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** The newly elected TDP-led government in Andhra Pradesh is undertaking a significant overhaul of the state’s school education system, reversing several key policies implemented by its predecessor, the YSRCP. The changes, announced on December 28th, 2024, follow widespread concerns from stakeholders about the effectiveness of previous reforms.
The YSRCP government had invested ₹63,000 crore in school reforms, including shifting 1,005 government schools to the CBSE curriculum. However, this move has been reversed after students showed poor performance in internal assessments. The TDP government has returned Class 10 students to the state board system.
The new administration, emphasizing a focus on improved learning outcomes, has approved the recruitment of 16,437 teachers and repealed G.O. 117, a policy deemed detrimental to rural students. A new academic calendar, free from political influence, has been implemented, along with a state-wide parents-teachers meeting to increase parental involvement.
Further reforms include revising textbooks aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and the NIPUN Bharat initiative. The government is partnering with organizations like UNICEF, Pratham, and J-PAL to introduce innovative teaching methods. A mid-day meal scheme will be extended to 2 lakh intermediate students in 475 junior colleges.
A new school rating system will be used to identify areas needing improvement, and a “One School, One App” initiative will monitor each school’s progress. State and national-level science and sports meets are planned, alongside the introduction of holistic report cards. Human Resources Development Minister N. Lokesh has outlined a six-month plan to further elevate standards in government schools and junior colleges. The state currently boasts 58,950 schools educating 72,20,633 students with 2,96,274 teachers.
