Fri Dec 27 20:03:18 UTC 2024: ## Bihar and Jharkhand Chief Ministers Postpone Events to Mourn Former PM Manmohan Singh

**Patna, Bihar – December 28, 2024** – Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren have postponed official engagements to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday at Delhi AIIMS.

Mr. Kumar cancelled his scheduled “Pragati Yatra” review of development work in Muzaffarpur and Vaishali districts, rescheduling them for January 5th and 6th respectively. He expressed his grief on X (formerly Twitter), praising Dr. Singh’s economic policies and leadership. He highlighted Dr. Singh’s contributions to Bihar, including the declaration of the 2008 floods as a national disaster and the allocation of ₹1,000 crore in aid, as well as the establishment of a central university in South Bihar.

Similarly, Mr. Soren, who had planned to transfer financial aid to eligible women on December 28th, postponed the event. He also shared a message of condolence on X, remembering Dr. Singh’s dedication to public service. A new date for the financial aid disbursement has not yet been announced. Both Chief Ministers paid their respects to the former Prime Minister in New Delhi on December 27th.
