**New Delhi, December 28, 2024** – Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be accorded a state funeral with full military honours on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Nigambodh Ghat in north Delhi. His body will lie in state at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., allowing the public and Congress workers to pay their respects before the funeral procession begins.
The Congress party, while initially expressing dissatisfaction with the cremation location, has since acknowledged the government’s commitment to allocate space for a memorial to Dr. Singh. This decision, communicated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday, followed a Cabinet meeting.
High-profile figures, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other dignitaries, paid their respects at Dr. Singh’s residence on Friday. The former Prime Minister’s body was draped in the Indian Tricolour. The Congress party had earlier voiced concerns, characterizing the initial choice of cremation site as a deliberate slight against India’s first Sikh Prime Minister.
