NEW DELHI — The last rites of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were performed today at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi. Dr. Singh, who passed away on December 26th at AIIMS Delhi, was accorded a final farewell attended by numerous dignitaries.
Prominent figures present included current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other prominent Congress leaders such as Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Navjot Singh Sidhu. The presence of numerous political leaders underscored the respect held for the late Prime Minister across party lines, although some criticism was leveled regarding the perceived politicization of the event. The procession carrying Dr. Singh’s mortal remains to the cremation site also drew large crowds.
