Sat Dec 28 01:57:19 UTC 2024: ## Kohli-Jaiswal Mix-up Costs India in Melbourne Test
**Melbourne, Australia:** A comical run-out of Yashasvi Jaiswal, due to a disastrous mix-up with Virat Kohli, marred India’s second day in the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Jaiswal, who had compiled a stylish 82, was dismissed in bizarre fashion after a 102-run partnership with Kohli.
The incident occurred on the final ball of the 41st over, bowled by Scott Boland. Jaiswal clipped the ball towards mid-on and called for a run, but Kohli, seemingly unaware of the fielder’s position, hesitated, leaving Jaiswal stranded midway between the wickets. Pat Cummins’ quick throw and Alex Carey’s stumping sealed Jaiswal’s fate.
Despite Jaiswal’s impressive innings, which included a series of elegant boundaries, India ended the day on 164-5, still a significant 310 runs behind Australia’s first innings total of 474. Australia’s score was largely thanks to Steve Smith’s impressive 140.
India’s struggles continued after the Jaiswal dismissal. Kohli himself was soon dismissed for 36 by Boland, while Scott Boland and Pat Cummins each took two wickets apiece, capitalizing on India’s late-day collapse. Earlier, skipper Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued with a three-run dismissal, while KL Rahul also fell for 24. Rishabh Pant (6*) and Ravindra Jadeja (4*) remained unbeaten at the close of play. The match remains keenly contested.
