**Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, December 28, 2024** – In a bid to combat rising road accident fatalities, Guntur district police organized a two-wheeler rally and awareness campaign on Friday. The initiative, spearheaded by Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar, aimed to promote helmet usage among two-wheeler riders.
The rally, which started at the District Police Parade Grounds and concluded at the Three Statues Centre, saw participation from police personnel, who rode their two-wheelers while wearing helmets. The campaign emphasized the importance of helmets as a safety measure, rather than a mere regulation.
Addressing participants, Mr. Kumar cited alarming statistics: Guntur district witnessed nearly 1,000 road accidents in 2024, with 340 involving two-wheelers. These accidents resulted in 130 deaths and over 300 injuries. He stressed that a significant portion of these fatalities could have been avoided with proper helmet usage.
The awareness campaign also included a street play depicting the consequences of not wearing a helmet. The initiative prioritizes education over fines, focusing on instilling a sense of personal responsibility among riders. Mr. Kumar personally presented roses to rally participants who were wearing helmets. The success of the campaign was attributed in part to Pedakakani Circle Inspector P. Narayana Swamy’s innovative approach.
