**VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA (December 28, 2024)** – Visakhapatnam International Airport has experienced a significant surge in passenger traffic, exceeding pre-pandemic levels by over 11% in 2024. This growth has prompted the introduction of three new domestic flights and the revival of two international routes. The airport now handles an average of 9,000 passengers daily across 60 operations.

To accommodate the increased demand, the airport has undertaken a series of improvements. These include the addition of ten new check-in counters and the completion of an In-Line Baggage Handling System (ILHBS), which will expedite the check-in process once approved by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Further upgrades include a new departure gate, four additional emigration counters, and space for two more Pre-Embarkation Security Check facilities.

Passenger amenities have also been enhanced with the addition of a new executive lounge, an electric vehicle charging station, expanded shopping options, and improved city-side transportation links including Ola, Uber, Rapido, Srinivasa Travels and a prepaid taxi service. Free unlimited Wi-Fi is also available.

The airport’s cargo handling has been outsourced to M/s. Omega Enterprises for domestic operations, with plans to expand to international cargo handling in partnership with the A.P. Trade Development Corporation. Environmental initiatives include the installation of a 40KW rooftop solar power plant and a commitment to 100% green power.
