Sat Dec 28 06:33:36 UTC 2024: ## Delhi NCR Battered by Heavy Rains, Disruptions Reported

**New Delhi, December 2023** – Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing widespread disruption. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms throughout the day, impacting areas including Palam, Safdarjung, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, and Manesar.

The downpour has already resulted in several incidents: a road caved in in Sector-9, RK Puram, causing a car and motorcycle to fall into the resulting hole; trees have been uprooted in multiple locations, with one falling on an auto-rickshaw in Mehrauli (though no injuries were reported); and heavy damage has been reported in Dholpur, with several injuries.

Rail services in North India have also been affected, with over 14 trains delayed due to low visibility caused by the inclement weather.

Despite the heavy rain, air quality has improved, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 202 (moderate). The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), though stages 1 and 2 remain in effect.

The IMD reports that Friday saw Delhi’s highest December rainfall in 15 years. The weather forecast predicts continued rain, along with thunderstorms, throughout the weekend. The RWFC predicts a minimum temperature of 12°C and a maximum of 16°C for today, along with dense fog in some areas.
