Fri Dec 27 15:56:23 UTC 2024: ## Two Accidents in Udupi District Leave One Dead, Several Injured

**Mangaluru, Dec 27, 2024** – Udupi district reported two separate road accidents on Thursday and Friday, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. On Thursday, a 64-year-old man, Shekar, died after being struck by a car on National Highway 66 near Padubidri. The car, driven by Asgari Banu, subsequently veered into a roadside trench. Both Banu and her passenger, Sayyad Abdul Razak, sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Padubidri police have filed a case against Banu under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Separately, on Friday morning, four Kerala tourists traveling to Kollur Mookambika Temple were injured when their car fell into a trench at the Ambalpady junction in Udupi. The accident occurred as the driver attempted to avoid another vehicle. The injuries sustained were minor, and all occupants received treatment at a local hospital. Udupi traffic police reported no case was filed in connection with this incident.

Both accidents occurred near construction sites for a new vehicular overpass being built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). While the NHAI claims to have provided adequate barricades around the construction trenches, the incidents raise questions about the safety measures in place.
