Thu Dec 26 18:45:16 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu to See Intermittent Rainfall Until Weekend
**Chennai, December 27, 2024** – Parts of northern Tamil Nadu can expect intermittent, moderate rainfall through Friday, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has weakened, but will continue to bring light to moderate rain until dissipating completely.
Thursday saw several districts in northern Tamil Nadu experience wet weather, with Chennai areas like Villivakkam recording 4 cm of rainfall. The RMC forecasts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until Friday. This is expected to be the last significant rainfall before the weather system moves away.
While the weekend may see a dip in rainfall, an easterly wave is likely to bring scattered moderate rain around December 31 and January 1. The RMC officially considers December 31 the end of the Northeast monsoon for statistical purposes, but a formal declaration will follow five consecutive dry days. Tamil Nadu experienced a bountiful monsoon season, with rainfall exceeding the average by 33%.
