RAMANATHAPURAM, Tamil Nadu – A seven-foot-tall, 70-kilogram cake depicting the late industrialist Ratan Tata has become a viral sensation in India. Created by Aishwarya Bakery in Bharathi Nagar, Ramanathapuram district, the cake is a Christmas confection made with approximately 60 kilograms of sugar and 250 eggs, using a royal icing technique. The bakery, operating for 21 years, has a tradition of creating large, themed cakes each Christmas to attract customers and honor influential figures. This year’s creation, a life-sized Ratan Tata figure, has surpassed previous efforts featuring figures such as Bharathiyar, Diego Maradona, and Ilaiyaraaja in terms of national attention.
The cake, which cost approximately ₹100,000 (approximately $12,000 USD) to create and protect within a glass enclosure, took six days to complete by a team of five cake masters. It is made without flour and is expected to last until January 1st before being dissolved in water. The bakery owner, Sathish Ranganathan, attributes the immense popularity to the widespread respect and admiration for Ratan Tata in India, highlighting his business ethics and philanthropy.
