**New Delhi, December 26, 2024** – India is observing seven days of national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the age of 92. The government announced the period of mourning Thursday evening, following the confirmation of his passing. His last rites will be conducted with full state honors.

As a mark of respect, all government programs scheduled for Friday have been cancelled, and the Union Cabinet will convene at 11 am. The National Flag will fly at half-mast on all government buildings throughout the mourning period, and official entertainment is suspended.

The Indian National Congress has also declared a seven-day mourning period, cancelling all party programs, including its Foundation Day celebrations. The Congress flag will likewise be flown at half-mast.

Dr. Singh served two consecutive terms as Prime Minister (2004-2014) and was instrumental in ushering in economic liberalization as Finance Minister under P.V. Narasimha Rao (1991-1996). His contributions to India’s economic development have been widely lauded.
