MUMBAI, December 27, 2024 – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the state’s District Good Governance Index Report 2024 on Thursday, emphasizing the crucial role of accessible government services in improving citizens’ quality of life. The report, based on over 300 data points across 10 development sectors, assesses the performance of districts across various parameters.

Top-performing districts were highlighted in sectors including agriculture, commerce, human resource development, public health, infrastructure, social development, economic governance, justice and security, environment, and people-centric administration. Specific districts excelling in each sector were named in the report.

Fadnavis stressed that improved governance is vital for the state’s progress towards a trillion-dollar economy. He announced a 100-day plan focusing on citizen-centric, technology-driven initiatives. This includes utilizing AI and IT to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, specifically addressing the increasing leopard population by expanding relocation programs and enhancing leopard shelters. The Forest Department is also tasked with developing a carbon credit company and promoting Miyawaki urban afforestation.

The report also recommended specific actions for various departments, including focusing agricultural schemes on farmers’ needs and attracting foreign universities to boost higher education. Fadnavis highlighted the “Aaple Sarkar” platform, a one-stop grievance redressal system, and urged districts with low performance scores to improve.
