Fri Dec 27 10:10:00 UTC 2024: **Sacramento Faces Stormy Christmas Weekend, Sierra Snow Expected**

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A series of atmospheric rivers will bring a stormy end to 2024, impacting the Sacramento region and Sierra Nevada with heavy rain, snow, and gusty winds through the weekend.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Friday noon above 6,000 feet, with 4-12 inches of snow expected in some areas. A High Wind Advisory is also in place until 10 a.m. Friday, with gusts near 35 mph possible. Friday’s commute may be affected by fog. While snow levels will rise to near 8,000 feet on Friday, easing travel concerns for some, a final storm wave Saturday and Sunday will lower snow levels again, potentially impacting mountain travel.

Total rainfall accumulation is expected to be around 1 inch in the valley, 1.5-2 inches in the foothills, and 5-15 inches of new snow in the Sierra by Sunday. Travelers should monitor conditions, especially on I-5 heading north, as the Pacific Northwest will experience the most significant impacts.

ABC10 is urging residents to stay updated on the forecast via their ABC10+ streaming app, available on various platforms. The station will provide extended forecasts to help residents plan accordingly.
