Fri Dec 27 15:47:08 UTC 2024: ## Akasa Air’s Top Executives Suspended for Six Months Over Pilot Training Lapses

**Mumbai, India –** The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended the director of operations and director of training at Akasa Air for six months, citing serious lapses in pilot training. The suspensions, effective immediately, follow an October 7th audit that revealed violations of civil aviation requirements (CAR).

The DGCA’s orders, issued on December 27th, state that Akasa Air used unqualified simulators for Required Navigation Performance (RNP) approach training, a violation of CAR Section 7, Series D, Part VI. Furthermore, the DGCA found that the two executives failed to adequately train personnel and address repeated violations related to training procedures. The unsatisfactory responses to show-cause notices issued in October further contributed to the decision.

The regulator has deemed the executives’ failure to ensure compliance with CARs a serious breach of their duties, impacting safe operational standards. Akasa Air has been instructed to appoint suitable replacements for the suspended positions. A response from Akasa Air regarding the DGCA’s actions is pending. The airline, in which the Rakesh Jhunjhunwala family holds a stake, faces scrutiny over its operational compliance following this significant regulatory action.
