Fri Dec 27 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Zimbabwe Dominate Afghanistan in Bulawayo Test

**Bulawayo, Zimbabwe:** Centuries from Craig Ervine (104) and Brian Bennett (110*) propelled Zimbabwe to a commanding first-innings total of 586, their highest ever in Test cricket, on day two of the first Test against Afghanistan. This followed Sean Williams’ earlier impressive knock of 154.

Zimbabwe, resuming at 363/4, lost Williams early but Ervine and Bennett anchored a crucial partnership that pushed the score past 450. Bennett’s maiden Test century was particularly noteworthy, including a six after a controversial catch was overturned due to a fielder crossing the boundary rope. His innings, along with contributions from debutants Newman Nyamhuri and Trevor Gwandu, powered Zimbabwe to their record total.

In reply, Afghanistan reached 95/2 at stumps, with Rahmat Shah (49*) unbeaten. The Afghan openers showed resilience, benefitting from a dropped catch, but Muzarabani broke the significant 61-run partnership between Malik and Rahmat Shah. Bad light curtailed play with nine overs remaining. Zimbabwe holds a commanding 491-run lead heading into day three.
