**New York, NY** – Popular AI chatbot ChatGPT experienced a significant outage this afternoon, leaving many users unable to access the service. Reports of the disruption began surfacing around 1:30 PM ET, with a surge in outage reports on Down Detector.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, acknowledged the issue on its status page around 2 PM ET, citing “high error rates” affecting ChatGPT, its API, and its new text-to-video generator, Sora. A subsequent update blamed an issue with an “upstream provider,” but offered no estimated time for service restoration.

This marks the latest in a series of outages for ChatGPT in recent months.
