**GURUGRAM, INDIA –** Simran Singh, a 25-year-old radio jockey (RJ) popular in Jammu and Kashmir and known as “Jammu Ki Dhadkan” (Heart of Jammu) on social media, was found dead in her rented accommodation in Sector 47, Gurugram, on Wednesday. Police believe she died by suicide.

Singh, who had over 600,000 followers on Instagram, was reportedly found hanging in her room. No suicide note was recovered from the scene. Her last Instagram post, a video of her dancing on a beach, was published 13 days prior.

According to Gurugram police, a friend residing in the same house alerted authorities after Singh failed to respond to calls and refused to open her door. Police forced entry and discovered her body.

While Singh’s family confirmed she had been distressed recently, they couldn’t pinpoint a specific cause. The family has not filed a complaint, and the police have handed over the body after a post-mortem. The investigation continues.

Singh, originally from Nanak Nagar in Jammu, worked for Radio Mirchi in Jammu before moving to Delhi in 2021 and subsequently to Gurugram. She worked freelance and maintained a significant online presence.

The news of her death has sparked an outpouring of grief and speculation amongst her fans on social media, many expressing their shock and searching for answers regarding her suicide. Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, and his father Farooq Abdullah, also issued a joint statement expressing their condolences and highlighting Singh’s contribution to the region’s cultural landscape.
