This year marks the first time the National Child Awards will be presented on this date, coinciding with the commemoration.
The day remembers the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, who were brutally killed in 1705 at the age of 9 and 5 respectively, for refusing to renounce their Sikh faith under the Mughal governor Wazir Khan. Their unwavering commitment to their beliefs serves as a powerful symbol of courage and faith.
The government’s decision to align the National Child Awards with Veer Bal Diwas aims to inspire India’s youth by highlighting exceptional contributions and acts of bravery. Seventeen children will receive the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar from President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The event will include a march past by approximately 3,500 children representing diverse cultures, cultural performances, and the launch of the “Poshan Panchyat Yojana” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Annapurna Devi will deliver the inaugural address. The program will focus on nurturing young minds, fostering creativity, and encouraging their contribution to a developed India.
Beyond the main ceremony, nationwide activities are planned, including storytelling sessions, creative writing competitions, poster-making, essay writing, poetry recitals, and quizzes in schools, childcare institutions, and Anganwadi centers, as well as online activities on the MyGov/My India portal. The overall aim is to promote nutritional security and celebrate the resilience and achievements of children across India.
