THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec 26, 2024 – Thiruvananthapuram kicked off its Christmas and New Year celebrations with the annual Vasantholsavam flower and light show, a seven-day festival inaugurated Wednesday at the Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds. Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas officially opened the event, themed “Illuminating Joy, Spreading Harmony.”

The festival boasts a dazzling array of attractions, including a stunning New Year light show illuminating city streets and heritage structures. A curated flower show features blooms from across the state and beyond. Visitors can also enjoy trade fairs, amusement parks, food festivals, cultural programs, and unique displays such as a giant globe, a recreation of a London Christmas street, and exhibits showcasing rare plants and bonsai collections. Competitions for nurseries and landscaping professionals are also planned.

Minister Riyas emphasized Vasantholsavam’s role in fostering unity and happiness among Keralites, and in attracting both domestic and international tourists to experience the festive atmosphere. He also announced that Kochi and Kozhikode will also feature special New Year light displays. The festival is a joint effort between Kerala Tourism and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).
