**Mumbai, India** – Actor Sonu Sood, lauded for his humanitarian work assisting migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, has revealed he turned down offers of high-ranking political positions. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Sood stated he was offered the Chief Minister’s post, the Deputy Chief Minister’s position, and a Rajya Sabha seat. These offers, he said, came from prominent figures in the Indian government.
While acknowledging the allure of such opportunities, Sood explained his decision to remain outside the political arena stems from a desire to maintain his independence. He expressed concerns about the potential loss of freedom and stated that his motivations for helping people are not tied to financial gain or power. “People join politics for two reasons: to earn money or to gain power. I’m not interested in either of them,” he said. He emphasized his current ability to help those in need without political constraints.
Sood also used a mountaineering analogy, explaining that while rising to prominence is appealing, maintaining that position requires sustained effort and potentially compromises his independence. He acknowledged the perks offered, including a Delhi residence and high-level security, but ultimately prioritized his passion for acting and directing. While leaving the door open to future political involvement, he stated that his focus remains on his artistic career. His sister, Malvika Sood, previously contested the Punjab Assembly elections under the Congress party banner but was unsuccessful.
