CLEARWATER, FL – Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Andrew Painter will not participate in spring training games this year as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery, the team announced Monday. The 21-year-old, who underwent the procedure last July after suffering an elbow injury during 2023 spring training, will be focusing on rehabilitation and light throwing, but will not be pitching in games. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski stated that the team will be carefully managing Painter’s innings during his recovery. Painter, the 13th overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft, signed a $3.9 million bonus with the Phillies.
