Thu Dec 26 00:56:53 UTC 2024: ## Grand Central Subway Attack: Man Charged with Slashing Two

**New York, NY – December 26, 2024** – A man was arrested and charged with assault and other offenses after a knife attack at Grand Central Terminal’s subway station on Tuesday night, leaving a man and a woman injured. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., resulting in a 42-year-old man sustaining a wrist injury and a 26-year-old woman suffering a neck injury. Both victims are reportedly in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

The attack follows heightened concerns regarding subway crime, particularly after a woman was fatally set on fire on a subway car on December 22nd. The suspect in that case, Sebastian Zapeta, a 33-year-old Guatemalan citizen who entered the U.S. illegally, appeared in court on Wednesday facing murder charges. He is being held at Rikers Island and is due back in court on Friday.

The woman injured in the Grand Central attack, according to the New York Post, reported being punched to the ground and slashed across the throat by her assailant, who repeatedly yelled, “what’s your problem?” before fleeing.

Mayor Eric Adams addressed the recent surge in subway crime, noting a history of mental illness in the suspect involved in the fatal fire incident. The suspect in the Grand Central attack faces multiple charges including assault, reckless endangerment, menacing, harassment, disorderly conduct, and a weapons charge. His legal representation remains unclear.
