**Bengaluru, December 26, 2024** – The award-winning animated short film *Kandittund!* (Seen It!), a collection of eerie Malayalam folklore tales, has been adapted into a graphic novel titled *PNK Panicker’s Ghost Stories*. The book, published by Tulika Publications, was launched at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) during its recent Pravaha cultural festival.
*Kandittund!* originally narrated by PNK Panicker to his son, Suresh Eriyat, founder of Studio Eeksaurus, won the 69th National Award for Best Animated Short Film. The film, featuring characters from traditional Malayalam folklore, was adapted into a graphic novel by Studio Eeksaurus over nine to ten months.
Radhika Menon, publishing director of Tulika Publications, explained the change in title from *Kandittund!* to *PNK Panicker’s Ghost Stories*, stating that the latter would have broader appeal across age groups and better reflect the source of the stories. The novel has also been published in multiple languages to expand its reach.
Suresh Eriyat, initially apprehensive about the transition to print, expressed relief at the quality of the final product, crediting his National Institute of Design professor for encouraging the publication. The launch coincided with an animation film exhibition hosted by the BIC. Studio Eeksaurus, which has produced 11 short films in the past 15 years, emphasized the importance of local narratives in their work, highlighting the stories’ grounding in everyday life and culture.
