Wed Dec 25 17:58:48 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Launches Bilingual Kannada-English Dictionaries for Schoolchildren
**Bengaluru, December 26, 2024** – The Karnataka Department of School Education and Samagra Shiksha launched bilingual Kannada-English dictionaries for schoolchildren on Wednesday. Inspired by a similar initiative in Andhra Pradesh, the dictionaries aim to improve language proficiency among students.
Two sets of dictionaries have been developed – one for classes 1-5 and another for classes 6-8. They focus on complex vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, assisting students in sentence construction and effective reading in both languages.
Over 50 subject experts and teachers collaborated on the project, with technical support provided by the Save the Children organization. A Karnataka delegation previously visited Andhra Pradesh schools to study their bilingual textbooks and dictionaries, which served as a model for the Karnataka initiative.
Andhra Pradesh Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao participated virtually in the launch event, highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s focus on foundational learning, STEM education, and learning improvement strategies. The dictionaries were launched at the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) in Bengaluru.
