MT, a literary giant whose career spanned over seven decades, significantly impacted Malayalam literature and cinema. His works, often drawing inspiration from his childhood spent along the Nila river in a traditional Nair family, vividly depicted the lives and transformations of matrilineal families in North Kerala. Novels like *Naalukettu*, *Asuravithu*, and *Kaalam* are considered classics, showcasing his masterful portrayal of complex characters and their predicaments.
His literary achievements earned him numerous accolades, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Jnanpith Award. Born in 1934, MT’s passion for writing began in childhood. After a brief career as a schoolteacher, he joined *Mathrubhumi*, eventually becoming its editor. He also served as the president of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. In addition to his novels and screenplays, his body of work included travelogues, a play, and numerous essays. Until his final days, MT was working on a new novel. His legacy as one of the most influential figures in Malayalam literature and cinema remains firmly established.
