VIJAYAWADA, Andhra Pradesh – The recently released Telugu-language film “Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes,” starring Venela Kishore, Ananya Nagalla, and Siya Gautam, has received a mixed critical response. While anticipation was high due to the involvement of writer-director Writer Mohan and distributor Vamsi Nandapati, the film ultimately fell short of expectations, according to reviews.
The film, set against the backdrop of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, centers on a private detective, played by Venela Kishore, who is tasked with solving the murder of a young woman. The plot unfolds through the investigation, incorporating elements of romance and a subplot involving organ trafficking.
However, critics point to a lack of compelling plot twists and thrilling moments. The investigation itself is criticized as uninspired and lacking logical coherence, with some scenes deemed “silly.” While Ananya Nagalla’s dual role received some praise, Venela Kishore’s performance as the detective was considered underwhelming, failing to deliver the expected humor or detective prowess. The supporting cast also received little attention, with their roles described as insignificant.
The film’s music and direction were also criticized. The soundtrack, composed by Sunil Kashyap, failed to impress, and the directing was considered to be lacking in originality. Though the production values were deemed adequate, the overall execution failed to create the expected captivating crime thriller.
Despite the initial anticipation, “Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes” appears to have failed to meet the expectations set by its promotional campaign and the reputations of those involved. The film’s release on December 25th, 2024, did not result in the expected box office success.
