Wed Dec 25 07:58:04 UTC 2024: ## Beale Air Force Base Guardians Help Santa Claus Make His Rounds on Christmas Eve
**Beale Air Force Base, CA** – The 7th Space Warning Squadron (7 SWS) at Beale Air Force Base played a crucial role in Christmas Eve operations, not by tracking missiles, but by tracking Santa Claus himself. For years, the squadron has partnered with NORAD to provide tracking and communication support for Santa’s global journey.
On Christmas Eve, 7 SWS’s advanced radar systems detected a distinctive sleigh-shaped object and confirmed the jolly presence of Santa Claus soaring across North America. Children of Beale AFB personnel who made the “nice list” were invited to the squadron’s unique, triangular building for a special event.
The children not only learned how 7 SWS tracks Santa but also had the unique opportunity to speak directly to him via a special “sleigh phone.” Santa, with the help of the 7 SWS, personally acknowledged the children’s accomplishments throughout the year, promising each a special Christmas morning gift.
The event, filled with festive cheer, featured cookies, hot chocolate, games, and arts and crafts to keep the children entertained while waiting for their turn. Guardians from the 7 SWS, along with Team Beale volunteers, ensured a magical experience for all attendees.
“Seeing the kids’ faces light up when they hear Santa’s voice is the best part,” said Kelvin Scruggs, 7 SWS chief of programming and analysis. “It’s a chance for them to really interact with Santa.”
For many families, the event provided a special opportunity to see the 7 SWS facility and learn about its vital role in missile warning and space domain awareness. The event also fostered a strong connection between the base’s personnel and the families they serve.
“It’s a unique way to celebrate together and share a bit about our tracking capabilities,” said 2nd Lt. Josephine Lerner, 7 SWS crew commander and director of the Santa Tracker operation. “Plus, it’s cool to talk to Santa!”
The annual tradition continues to be a highlight for both the children and the 7 SWS Guardians, who relish the opportunity to spread holiday joy and showcase their important work.
