**Chennai, December 22, 2024:** The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall along the Tamil Nadu coast on December 25th and 26th. A low-pressure system currently over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and move towards the coast at a speed of 7 kmph.
Officials have advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea until December 23rd due to the possibility of scattered showers. While daytime temperatures are expected to be above normal for the next three days across the state, nighttime thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted for districts like Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, and Madurai.
The low-pressure system is expected to develop into a depression before making landfall, resulting in heavy to moderate rainfall across coastal districts on December 25th and 26th. Northeast monsoons are anticipated to continue until the first week of January, with rainfall gradually decreasing after January 10th.
