Patna, Bihar (December 25, 2024) – Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has proposed that the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, be conferred upon Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Singh praised both leaders for their contributions to the development of their respective states, highlighting the improvements seen in Bihar under Kumar’s leadership after a period of alleged neglect under the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal regime. He specifically cited improvements in roads, schools, and hospitals.
Singh’s statement comes amid ongoing political speculation in Bihar. Recent comments from Bihar’s BJP leadership confirm that the NDA will contest the upcoming state assembly elections under Kumar’s leadership, dispelling earlier rumours of a potential power shift. However, Kumar’s continued silence on the matter has fueled speculation about his future political moves. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has voiced concerns about BJP’s influence over Kumar, claiming close aides are in regular contact with the BJP’s top leadership.
While Kumar is currently undertaking a “Pragati Yatra” across the state, the political climate remains charged as the 2025 state assembly elections approach.
