**Washington, DC** – District Government offices will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, in observance of the Christmas holiday, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced. While most offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, essential services will remain operational.

Several adjustments to city services are in effect for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day:

* **Trash and Recycling:** No trash, recycling, or food waste collection will occur on Wednesday, December 25th. Collections will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week, with Wednesday’s pickup happening on Thursday. Leaf collection will proceed as scheduled. The Benning Road Transfer Station remains closed for renovations, and Fort Totten will be closed on Wednesday.

* **Transportation:** The DC Circulator will be closed on December 25th, resuming normal service on December 26th. The DC Streetcar will also be closed on December 25th. DDOT will suspend non-emergency road construction and work zones on December 25th. Parking enforcement will be suspended from 2 p.m. on December 24th through December 25th, except for Streetcar ticketing and towing.

* **Public Services:** Many public facilities, including recreation centers, community centers, indoor aquatic centers, and libraries, will close early on December 24th and remain closed on December 25th. DC Public Schools will be closed from December 23rd to January 1st. The Downtown Day Services Center and Zoe’s Doors Youth Drop-In Center will maintain reduced hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to support those experiencing homelessness.

* **Emergency Services:** Emergency shelters for individuals experiencing homelessness will remain open 24 hours a day. The DC Shelter Hotline (202) 399-7093 and 311 remain available for assistance. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is also available 24/7.

* **Government Offices:** Most District Government offices will resume normal operations on Thursday, December 26th. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) encourages residents to utilize online services. The Department of Buildings (DOB) will not permit construction on December 25th without an after-hours permit.
