**Hyderabad, December 25, 2024** – Telangana’s former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his former cabinet colleague T. Harish Rao have received temporary reprieve from a corruption case related to the Kaleshwaram project. The Telangana High Court on Tuesday stayed an order by the Principal Sessions Judge (PSJ) of Jayashankar district that allowed a criminal revision petition against them.
The petition was filed by Nagavelli Rajalingamurthy, who accused KCR, Harish Rao, and other officials of corruption during the construction of the Medigadda barrage. Rajalingamurthy’s initial complaint to a lower court was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. He then filed a revision petition with the PSJ, which was granted.
KCR and Harish Rao challenged the PSJ’s decision in the High Court, arguing that the PSJ lacked the authority to allow the revision petition after the lower court’s dismissal. They criticized the PSJ’s reasoning, stating that the observations about societal impact and the petition’s numbering were unwarranted. The High Court, noting the limited scope of revision petitions, issued a notice to Rajalingamurthy and stayed the PSJ’s order. The case has been adjourned until January 7, 2024.
