**CHENNAI, INDIA (December 24, 2024)** – Twenty-five years after launching the city’s first heritage walk, V. Sriram celebrates the growth of this vibrant cultural movement in Chennai. What began as a solo endeavor guided by the legendary S. Rajam, now boasts a diverse community of passionate individuals making heritage accessible to all.
Sriram highlights the contributions of several key figures, including Pradeep Chakravarthy, Sudha Umashankar, Chithra Madhavan, Vincent DeSouza, Padmapriya Bhaskaran, Madras Inherited, Story Trails, and Chennai Photo Walks. He particularly praises Srivatsan Sankaran, who focuses on accessibility for the disabled, and Tripurasundari Sevvel, an architect and driving force at the Madras Literary Society.
Sevvel’s innovative approach using rubber stamps of heritage buildings on postcards, mailed by children during her walks, is showcased as a prime example of inclusive engagement. A recent collaboration with Sriram featured a postcard with a sketch of the Music Academy, highlighting the creativity and community involvement at the heart of the initiative. While acknowledging challenges like walking-unfriendly city infrastructure, Sriram remains optimistic about the future and calls for increased civic support to further improve accessibility. He hopes the Greater Chennai Corporation will work with Sevvel to make the city more heritage walk-friendly.
