**Imphal, Manipur, December 25, 2024** – A gunfight erupted between two armed groups in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Wednesday morning, police reported. Armed men, positioned on hilltops in Kangpokpi district, opened fire on Sinam Kom village. Village volunteers stationed at the foothills returned fire, resulting in an exchange. No injuries were reported, and additional security forces have been deployed to the area.
This incident follows a separate gunfight on Tuesday night between armed men and security forces in Imphal East’s Thamnapokpi and Uyok Ching areas.
The recent clashes come amidst ongoing ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups that began in May 2024, leaving over 250 dead and thousands displaced. The situation remains tense.
