Wed Dec 25 14:39:33 UTC 2024: ## Bollywood Remake “Baby John” Fails to Deliver, Critics Say

**Mumbai, India** – Varun Dhawan’s latest action film, “Baby John,” a remake of the Tamil hit “Theri,” has received scathing reviews from critics, failing to replicate the original’s success. The film, directed by Kalees, suffers from excessive length, a disjointed plot, and a lack of originality, despite featuring a star-studded cast including Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff.

While Dhawan attempts to portray a tough-guy cop, his performance is hampered by the film’s overall weaknesses. The action sequences are deemed outdated and lack the impact needed to keep viewers engaged. The storyline, centering on a cop protecting his daughter while battling a ruthless villain, feels familiar and predictable, offering little novelty. Furthermore, the romantic subplot and family drama elements are criticized for slowing the pacing and diluting the impact of the action sequences.

Critics point to the film’s overreliance on masala-style Bollywood tropes and its failure to deliver genuinely surprising moments. The supporting cast, including Rajpal Yadav in an atypical serious role, struggles to elevate the material. The film’s lengthy runtime (2 hours 40 minutes) is also cited as a major drawback.

Despite its flaws, the film attempts to inject energy through noisy action sequences, but these ultimately fall flat. Although Atlee, director of “Theri,” served as producer, the Hindi remake fails to capture the mass appeal of the original. “Baby John” is deemed a missed opportunity, leaving audiences wanting more from this Bollywood action thriller.
