Tue Dec 24 11:10:00 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Women Aim for Comeback After Crushing ODI Defeat to India
**MUMBAI** – West Indies Women’s head coach Shane Deitz has called for a swift response from his team after a resounding 211-run defeat to India in the opening ODI. Despite the heavy loss, Deitz remains optimistic about a series turnaround, stating, “We still believe we can win the series 2-1.”
The coach pinpointed fielding as a key area needing immediate improvement. “If you send a team in, you’ve got to take your catches and capitalize on chances,” he emphasized, acknowledging a lack of execution in the first match. He attributed some of the team’s struggles to a six-month break from ODI cricket, noting the recent focus on T20 cricket.
While acknowledging the challenges, Deitz highlighted the impressive performance of young bowler Zaida James, who claimed 5 wickets for 45 runs. He praised James’ talent but cautioned against complacency, urging continued hard work and improvement.
The second ODI is underway today, with the West Indies hoping to implement the necessary changes and mount a stronger challenge against the dominant Indian side.
